Murasaki Uni, Purple Seaurchin

Murasaki Uni or Purple Uni 紫ウニ, sometimes also known as Shiro/White Uni 白ウニ or Long spike Sea urhcin is a type of Sea urchin caught off the shores of the middle and southern parts of Japan. They can be found anywhere from Hokkaido to Aomori to Miyagi and further south too. 

Murasaki Uni is lighter in color almost a off-yellow or Pale chestnut, it is generally larger in width and longer in length than their more common brother the Bafun Uni Seaurchin. Murasaki Uni tastes richer and brinier than Bafun Uni, it is almost creamier and melts in the mouth more as compared to Bafun Uni. Murasaki uni has a almost custard like mouthfeel and spreads its umami flavor better than Bafun Uni.
