Tuna, O-toro (Fatty Tuna 大トロ) Facts
Our top grade tuna is caught off the seas of Hokkaido and Genkai and is truly one of the best things Japan has to offer.
“Toro” is the fattier part of the Tuna. Next to the “Chu-toro””O-Toro” is the fattiest part of the tuna, which is exactly where you find the belly of the tuna. Freshly caught, the “O-toro” is well marbled with a pinkish-white colour with a melt in your mouth texture.
- Texture: ultra soft and melts in your mouth;
- Taste: sweet with heavy umami;
- Colour: pinkish-white with high marbling;
- Weight: ~500g; and
- Recommended: Sashimi to be consumed within 3 days.
Otoro tuna is best eaten with/as:
- sushi, rolls, maki;
- kaisen don;
- seaweed; and/or
